‘PASSAGE THROUGH TICONDEROGA’

Learn More About 'PASSAGE THROUGH TICONDEROGA'

Steven Teller | @steventellerarts

Ticonderoga serves as a literal and strategic gateway between the Adirondack
Mountains, Lake George, and Lake Champlain. This work is based on reference
images provided by a local historian and research into the New York State
archives. The steamboat captain is a reference from the archives. The concept of

Ticonderoga at the hub of connectivity and transit by train and steamboat is the
overarching theme of this work. During the public engagement sessions, the
community requested mural themes that might include the Delaware and Hudson
Railroad and steamboat transportation. According to the Bridge Line Historical
Society, the history of the Delaware & Hudson Railroad’s branch lines to Baldwin
Dock and into the town of Ticonderoga, New York is a central part of
Ticonderoga’s story. ‘These branch lines, named the Baldwin Branch and
Ticonderoga branch, served the steamboat and paper mill industries in and
around the Ticonderoga area beginning in the late 1800s until the later part of the
twentieth century.  Although the freight industry died out by 1980, steamboat
travel, as a voluntary tourist excursion method rather than a necessary mode of
travel, continues today.’ https://www.tibranch.com/tibranchmain3.html
This mural theme, on display at a major intersection within downtown
Ticonderoga, helps us keep this shared history alive.

‘PETALS OF TIME’

Learn More About 'PETALS OF TIME'

STUDIO GIFTIG | @StudioGiftig

Belva is portrayed with some chrysanthemums physically around her, while
others appear to float and move through the air around her, this arrangement
enhances the sense of timelessness and emphasizes her life energy and
meaningful presence within the community. The background consists of a soft
sky, creating a calm and hopeful atmosphere. This setting allows both Belva and
the symbolism of the chrysanthemums to fully stand out, together forming a
powerful image that conveys resilience, connection, and inspiration.

This concept features an individual, who is meant to represent all the people of
the region– Belva represents the history, memories, and experiences that shape a
community.
This work celebrates the generational memories and knowledge represented by a
person who has lived in the area for 103 years. The white chrysanthemum
incorporated in the design symbolizes purity, longevity, and the continuity of life
across generations. As the woman looks up at the drifting flower, it becomes a
subtle reflection of how life, knowledge, and stories pass from one generation to
the next endlessly renewed, like the chrysanthemum that returns to bloom each
year. Older generations carry knowledge, traditions, and stories that help define a
place’s identity. In this way, the portrait can serve as a symbol of collective
memory and the continuity of the community.

Niels & Kaspar of STUDIO GIFTIG | @StudioGiftig

Studio Giftig consisting of the Netherlands-based artist duo Niels van Swaemen (1981,
Eindhoven) and Kaspar van Leek (1983, Philipsburg St. Maarten). They come into
contact with each other in 2007, at which time both individuals have been active in
street art for some time. From 2007 the first cooperation projects are picked up and a
vacant warehouse serves as base for their studio. Within this warehouse there was a
storage room for toxic substances and chemicals, in this storage room they kept their
paint and spray cans. The name Studio Giftig refers to this storage room because giftig
is the Dutch translation of Toxic.
At the start of the collaboration in 2007, one was still studying at the art academy and
the other was working as a graphic designer. Therefore, they worked on their projects in
the evenings and during the weekends. Because of the great interest there was not
enough time to be able to pick up all the projects and in 2012 the duo decided to fully
devote themselves to murals. In the following years the duo developed a common
painting style, with which they became known through their highly detailed (sur)realistic
murals.
The characteristic own visual language of Studio Giftig has in addition to the quality of
the paintings as a typical element, that all images are autonomously designed.
Recognizable by the process in which they work is the way in which they translate their
own personal concepts by photographing the objects and models themselves. That’s
how they ensure a total autonomy within their visual language as a starting point for
their paintings. Currently, Studio Giftig has managed to develop their own visual
language within urban art with which they perform their autonomous work independently
as well as for galleries and prominent clients.
“Studio Giftig creates murals on the highest level with top quality. They speak
their own visual language. Expect a well-motivated concept with their distinctive
photo realistic style.”

‘WATER WONDER’

Learn More About 'WATER WONDER'

Erika Rosendale aka Miss Teal | @erika.rosendale

This is a dynamic and immersive mural that ignites the senses and fosters
serenity and awe at the same time. The teal palette would create a cool splash
through the complementary brick landscape just like the main kingfisher that
splashes through the river waters, which wrap around the corner of the building.
The composition plays to the rule of thirds with the glistening water line fading
away into the background horizon at the lower third, while the king fisher takes
up the height of the wall on the right and the backsplash, which stretches into the
shape of wings, takes up the the left two thirds of the wall.

A gradient of dark to light, top to bottom, gives a backdrop to the individual water
droplets, some shine and catch the colored light while others reflect pieces of the
history of Jay, including local legends, buildings, and landscape. There are many
droplets, which reflects the requests of the Jay Public Art Committee to capture
many of the themes and stories that were developed by the group.
What’s in the water droplets? (from left to right):
Doris Kenyon, Silent Movie Star
Paper Mill Employees

Arto Monaco Portrait
Land of Make Believe
J.&J. Rogers Company Mill Building
Rockwell Kent Painting
Fly Fisherman

‘SPIRIT OF THE LAKE’

Learn More About 'SPIRIT OF THE LAKE'

Mandi Caskey aka Miss Birdy | @miss.birdy

This mural re-imagines Champ, the legendary creature of Lake Champlain, as a
gentle guardian of the region’s waters and forests. Rather than a monster of
folklore, the dragon is portrayed as a peaceful giant whose body becomes part of
the landscape itself.

Moss, mushrooms, and ghost pipe flowers grow along its back, suggesting that
the creature and the land exist as one living system. A luna moth rests nearby,
symbolizing transformation and the fragile beauty of the surrounding ecosystem.

Rising calmly from the lake beneath the moon, the dragon moves through the
water as a quiet protector and life giver. The mural invites viewers to see Champ
not as something to fear, but as a symbol of the deep connection between water,
land, and the stories that grow from them.
This mural directly aligns with community requests to see a Champ mural; it
further aligns with the requests for local fungi to be featured in an artwork.
